Demi Lovato on Honesty with Fans: "I Grow More When I'm Open with People"

July 5, 2018

Last month, Demi Lovato made headlines when she released her song "Sober" and admitted that she had relapsed after six years of sobriety.

The 25-year-old pop star has become well-known for her transparency in the public eye, having discussed everything from her mental health, to her struggles with an eating disorder, to her ongoing battle with addiction.

When she stopped by MusicTown ahead of her concert at Little Caesars Arena back in March, Lovato talked with 98.7 AMP Radio's Julia about her documentary Simply Complicated, and why she chooses to be so open with her fans.

"The more I'm honest with people, the more I grow as a person," she said. "There were some things in the documentary that were kind of difficult to talk about, but because I talked about it ... the more accountable I was held by my fans."

"I want to be a light and inspiration for them," Lovato added of her loyal fanbase.

And it certainly seems as though the singer is feeling the love from her 'Lovatics' as of late, as she posted a heartfelt thank you to her fans on Instagram last week following an outpouring of support after the release of "Sober."

"Tonight I took the stage, a new person with a new life," she wrote. "Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. It will never be forgotten."
