Behind the Mic celebrated its 100th episode this week with Detroit's own, Jill Jack!

The singer/songwriter, who has opened for everyone from Loretta Lynn to Bob Seger, stopped by the MusicTown Detroit studios to perform three songs, and to talk about her upcoming birthday bash at The Ark in Ann Arbor on January 11.

Jack explained that she started the annual bash years ago because her husband was out of town at a conference in Las Vegas during her birthday, and she wanted to find something to do instead of sitting at home. She gathered up a group of friends and fellow performers for a night of fun and live music, and has been hosting the event for close to a decade.

She also happens to share her big day with music legends Elvis Presley and David Bowie, so she always tries to incorporates them into the show as well, and also picks a larger theme to carry the evening.

This year, that theme is to-be-determined, but the singer has already chosen which other local artists will share the stage with her that night.

"I have a company called Dream Big, so three of my clients [will open] - Aspen Jacobsen, the Keynote Sisters and Kev F.," Jack told host Pam Rossi. "All three under the age of 20-something. I'm going to let them do a single from each of their new albums that they're releasing."

"I'm excited because it takes a long time to get into The Ark," she continued. "This way, they can dip their toe in and it gives them a goal."

While on Behind the Mic, Jack also talked about what's coming up next with her music, and says another jazz album could be on the horizon.

The traditionally folk-style singer tried her hand at jazz with 2016's Pure Imagination, and said that her band recently brought up the possibly of doing a sophomore record in that genre.

"We're in the studio right now doing a single and the guys are like, 'When are we recording another jazz record?'," she said. "So we're thinking about it."
