SonReal Records Episode of 'Acoustic Cafe' at MusicTown Detroit

November 9, 2019

SonReal is an artist in transition.

The 34-year-old hip hop artist (who's given name is Aaron Hoffman) built his career through a series of successful mixtapes between 2008 and 2014, eventually releasing his first full-length album, One Long Dream, in 2017.

Now, with a little more life under his belt, SonReal's latest record, The Aaron LP, showcases more serious themes and a new sound.

On a recent episode of Acoustic Cafe recorded at MusicTown Detroit, the rapper explained to host Rob Reinhart how the loss of his father, a new marriage, and a baby on the way has led to big changes in both his life and his music.

"You have to live life in order to write those songs," he said. "My strongest songs come from loss, from pain, from joy."

He also performed several songs live in the MusicTown Detroit studios, including "1000 Highways," "My Friend" and "Parachute.

Check out the episode now on, and keep your eye out for videos of their performance as part of our new series, The District Sessions.
